Is that a bad thing? I don't think its a bad thing.
There are a ton on Craigslist for very cheap. I'd love to get one as a hilarious rallycross beater.

I want to get a GrandMa with partial vinyl top, swap in a Triton V10 with three-valve heads and a super, build a drag auto, and troll *all the things*.

My girlfriend wants one too. I would do it. For the price, just go for it. You could part it out and make your money back and then some if you had to.

Do it! Make sure to get a real shitty ex taxi though.

Totally support your decision, only if it has steelies. Mmm, cop steelies...

Don't. The back seats are cramped, the divider takes up too much room. The hard plastic seats are not comfy and offer absolutely no support during hard cornering, or hard shoving. Ingress/egress sucks, especially when cuffed. I just couldn't get comfortable at all back there. Of course, if you don't care about your passengers, then go for it!

Speaking of cop steelies.... I found out that the P71 steelies will fit on my Mustang. I'm totally going to get those as my winter wheels and run a bright green mustang on cop steelies with that classic chome centercap

I secretly want one, too. I would love to see what it's like to ride in the front.

No one would be riding in the back seat (pretty sure the SCCA wouldn't allow that at an official event). And I could easily swap in a bucket for myself..... or just keep the bench and hold on for dear life and hope the steering wheel doesn't give.

The chrome center cap should fit anything with Mustang bolt pattern, regardless whether it's used with that wheel. That tends to give me ideas...

Correct - that being said, it's a very buildable auto to whatever shift behavior and hp you want, and can be set up with a drag-racey manual valve body.

The three-valve heads and super vs. turbo would be my preference, better breathing and launch. I've previously noted that T V-10s are easy to get (one way - decom U-haul vans), but to set up for more power, you need the Super Duty heads and some other toys.
GrandMa and vinyl top are necessary for sleeper reasons, but the GrandMa is also often the cheapest Panther.

I believe there was some sarcasm in the comment above. I say go for it! A friend AutoX'd one with the backseat full, but that wasn't an SCCA run event.

Why would it be a bad thing? Panthers are awesome. If I had one in black with cop gear, I'd be vigilanting for sure!

DO IT, I managed to snag my 2004 grand marquis at an estate auction for $4,000. Ready for the kicker? It only had 30,000 miles on the clock. Best. Deal. Ever.

I like the look of these wheels, though I don't think I've ever seen them on a Panther before.

I've always wanted a surplus undercover car only so I could sit on the side of a road with a hairdryer pointed out the window and get everyone's reaction

I really don't know. I think it would hinge on whether or not the officer has a sense of humor. As long as you don't try to make an arrest, verbally claim you're a police officer, or use a police-like vehicle to take advantage of certain emergency vehicle privileges, it's not considered a crime of "police impersonation".

I think it's a very bad thing.
All of these Panthers need to be burned. I'm sick and tired of slowing down for some dope civilian in a decommissioned police vehicle with the spotlights and push-bar still on the damn thing because I thought it was a cop.
